WATERCOLORS
A lot more goes into creating a beautiful watercolor painting than most people (or artists) would care to admit. Deciding on the technique to use often depends on the subject matter. Do you dry wash, wet wash, underpaint, layer, use color blending, feather, etc. The list goes on and on. More often than not, more that one technique is used to create a work of art. Once an artist decides what to paint, and the techniques to use, comes the actual brush to paper. But what brush? Large, small, tapered, just to name a few. Then how do I add the paint? By brush, by paper, sponge, tapping the brush, flicking the brush: Hello! This entire process can take just minutes to a few hours for a small painting with minor details, or weeks to create a more detailed work. And of course, during all of this, you are fighting the elements; if outdoors (wind, blazing sun, dust, changing light, etc.) or indoor distractions (kids, pets, spouse, chores)! With perserverance, the art is finally finished and only then signed by the artist. So, when you think of the thousands of dollars you paid to have your house painted, think about the great value in obtaining a work of art you can proudly hang to cover the spot the house painter missed!
